Why it caught on: Gandalf facing the Balrog on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm in The Fellowship of the Ring (2001). Tolkien wrote "You cannot pass"; the film's bigger line is the one now bellowed by goalkeepers, parents and doormen everywhere.
